A Letter from Manny

December 8, 2005

Dear Members:

The attached document was provided as a guideline by our Rocky Flat friends and I would like to again emphasize that things are going to be very different with the next "Contractor" at LANL. Therefore, the more information we all have the better our decision process will be.

Please read the attachments, they are an eye-opener. As stated in the article for Non Union Workers at Verizon, management can cut retirement and benefits at will and it looks like this is going to happen; whereas with Union Workers, any changes to their pensions and benefits are going to have to be "NEGOTIATED". This is a great situation to be in especially with the current corporate agenda in this country to minimize workers Pensions and Health care benefits. So the question I have is, do we as UPTE members want to protect our Pensions and Benefits? and if we are, What are we willing to do in minimizing this risk? Please think about the vulnerability we will be in with the next contractor. It is time to get our heads out of the sand thinking that everything is going to be okay. Let me tell you , It is not going to be okay and we are heading for a rude awakening. So please be informed and be active in your organization and come to our meetings. If we as whole can "Unite" on these issues we can be successful.

Also, I would like to mention that we will be continually be updating our UPTE Web-Page with pertinent information as the weeks go by so please visit our Web-Site.

Thanks,

Manny Trujillo
President
UPTE/LANL
