Mobilization & Education Committee

Thursday is UPTE Day!

If the E-board, which decides the direction our local is going, is the brains of this organization, then the Mobilization & Education Committee is the heart, which sometimes is connected to the funny bone. This is probably the most fun committee to be on. If you are creative and innovative, this is the place for you.

Mobilization is defined as the ongoing process to enhance communication and participation with each member." Thus, mobilization is a systematic method of educating represented employees about issues so that they become involved in the Local. We can't expect fifty people to show up at a rally if they don't know what's going on.

But in order to educate employees, a strong structure is required-a way of reaching them efficiently, and quickly, if necessary. To this end, probably the most important people on this committee are the area representatives. This would be someone who can give information out to workers in their department, building, or work area.

Participation builds camaraderie and sends a message to the administration that we are united in spirit. Ways to participate can be as simple as wearing your UPTE shirt or button every Thursday, or writing letters to UC administrators or state legislators, or designing flyers for distribution, or being an area rep and helping with the distribution of flyers and newsletters. If each of us does just a little bit, a lot will get done.
