A Global Climate Action Summit will be held in San Francisco September 12–14, 2018 to bring leaders and people together to recognize global achievements on climate and to launch deeper worldwide commitments and accelerated action from countries to prevent dangerous climate change and realize the Paris Agreement. “Affiliate events” will be held globally during the week of September 10. On September 8, people are planning thousands of rallies in cities and towns around the world to demand our local leaders commit to building a fossil-free world that puts people and justice before profits. Why September 8? We are at a tipping point. We are fast running out of time to act, but national governments have been slow to take meaningful action.
With climate impacts escalating we don’t have the luxury to wait to see what bureaucratic negotiations have to offer. We need our local leaders to step up and do everything they can right now to stop the fossil fuel industry and build 100% renewable energy for all. After this mobilization our aim is to keep the pressure on our local, state and national leaders to turn words into deeds for a fossil-free world.
