Step Increases are Coming!

Click here to fill out a new UPTE membership form to show UC that you support fair wages and working conditions so that we can continue to win pay raises and more.

Everyone in UPTE’s HX, RX, and TX units who meet the following criteria will receive a step increase (~2% pay increase) effective January 1st if you are paid monthly or January 9th if you are paid bi-weekly, to be paid in your first paycheck in February:

  1. You are in a career position
  2. You are no longer in a probationary period probation (typically 6 months from hire)
  3. You have a satisfactory or better rating on your most recent performance evaluation (or have never received an evaluation)
  4. You are not at the top step of your title’s pay scale*
  5. If you are in an experienced based HX title at UCLA, you must have the requisite years of experience for advancement to the next step

* HX Unit members who are at the top of their scale will receive a 2% lump-sum payment that will count toward pensionable income.

To see if you are at the top step and how much of an increase you will receive, search for your job title at the following link: https://tcs.ucop.edu/tcs/jsp/nonAcademicTitlesSearch.htm

Search using the abbreviation of your title from UC Path or from your paycheck and make sure to choose the correct Campus or Medical Center since pay scales vary. For example:

  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist titles are abbreviated “CLIN LAB SCI”
  • Physical Therapist titles are abbreviated “PHYS THER”
  • Staff Research Associate titles are abbreviated “SRA”
  • Animal Technician Titles are abbreviated “ANML TCHN”
  • Business Technology Support Analysts are abbreviated “BUS TCHL SUPP ANL”

Some titles have half-steps (eg. Step 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, etc), which are worth the same (~2%) as steps in scales that use full steps (eg Step 1, 2, 3, 4, etc). In titles with half-steps you will move to the next half-step (eg. Step 2 to 2.5 or 4.5 to 5), not two half-steps (eg. 2 to 3 or 4 to 5).
