Although this Wednesday’s strike is in response to UC’s illegal intimidation tactics against AFSCME 3299 and is unrelated to UPTE negotiations, UC Labor Relations Executive Director Peter Chester nevertheless sent many members a personal letter this weekend about UPTE Research and Technical negotiations. This letter contained misleading information, which after being repeated so many times cannot be an accident.
UC continues to lie about what is on the table for Research and Technical members, claiming it is offering 15% raises over five years when it is not. Click here to see the relevant pages from their proposal.
UC attempted to lure us into taking an unfair offer of 12% (3% raises 90 days after ratification, and then in October of 2019, 2020, and 2021) over 5 years — less than ½ of what they offered CNA-represented nurses — and cuts to retirement benefits (which CNA did not accept) by requiring us to accept their offer by February 22nd.
Because they moved backward and took that offer off the table after February 22, their current offer is actually only 8% (2% raises 90 days after ratification, and then in October of 2019, 2020, and 2021)!
You and thousands of UPTE members deserve a fair contract – but also the ability to fight for one without being misled by UC’s false information. These are exactly the kind of unfair labor practices that AFSCME is striking over.
Let’s show UC executives our power on Wednesday – that we’re not going to accept their illegal intimidation or other underhanded tactics against any UC workers.
