Today we are launching our new UPTE Update email, a once-a-week newsletter highlighting the latest happenings in the union and matters important to you.
Our goal is to keep you informed and reduce the number of emails we currently send you.
The format of this newsletter is subject to change over time, but it will always strive to keep you up to date on everything you need to know.

One Million Good Jobs in California
UPTE, alongside 19 other unions, recently sponsored a study looking at how the state’s climate policies will impact employment. CA’s significant investment in solving the climate crisis should help create 1 million new jobs in the state.

UPTE Town Hall
If you were unable to make it to the recent Member Town Hall, we recorded the event and placed it on the front page of our website, upte.org.
We will hold another town hall in July.
This notice is our one last request that you sign our petition demanding safety, security, and respect from the UC system as it attempts to reopen.
We have almost reached our signature goal for the petition. We will keep it open a little longer.
If you have not already, please sign it today at upte.org/safehaven.
Join CWA’s Juneteenth Celebration: Educate! Organize! Liberate!
Join us on Saturday, June 19th, for a virtual event to celebrate Juneteenth. This year’s event will highlight Juneteenth’s significance for the labor movement and the ongoing work CWAers have been engaged in over the past year to build an anti-racist union. We will be joined by CWA activists, artists, and special guests. This event will also center the need to protect our voting rights and reform our democracy by passing the For the People Act.
Tune in at: www.facebook.com/events/1095300170956162/.
Call for Member Profiles
We want to recognize your efforts. Each week, we have been posting about one of our members on social media. We are looking for more volunteers to profile.
If you are inclined, please submit a high-resolution photo of yourself (an iPhone photo will do), a 100 to 200-word quote about the services you perform at work, and an explanation about why you are part of UPTE to email@example.com.
Here is a recent example that showcases what we are looking for:
Students and others call for UC San Diego Police Department to be abolished
Several campuses have begun to announce vaccination policies for UC employees. Because UPTE members are represented by a Union, the UC is required to bargain with us before implementing changes to our working conditions. UPTE members are actively engaged in those negotiations this month. We are committed to ensuring that our members’ rights are respected while achieving the safest environment for all as we prepare to reopen campuses this fall. Set forth below is a story about the tentative vaccine policy at UC Berkeley
