UC Vaccination Policy Update
Last week, the University of California officially released its full vaccination policy. It will go into effect on August 4th. The new rules require all faculty and staff to get vaccinated before returning to campus in the fall, unless they can establish a religious or medical exemption.
Please note that while UPTE believes everyone should be vaccinated, we do not believe people should be denied employment if they have a legitimate reason for refusing to be vaccinated. We are currently bargaining the effects of the proposed policy with UC. We are also awaiting a decision from the Public Employment Relations Board regarding a similar policy mandating that employees receive a flu shot. We will continue to keep our members informed on these important issues.
UC Regents Meeting
UC Regents began their regular meeting today and will finish on Thursday.
Regents will discuss tuition and financial aid increases, how to move forward after COVID-19, and rules regarding healthcare organizations that have adopted policy-based restrictions on care.
The meeting is entirely virtual. You can attend here.
The State of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
At 2:30 PM today, Mike Witherell, Director of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, will brief UC Regents on the current state of the Laboratory.
Last week, California released its Just Transition roadmap. A Just Transition is a sustainable and equitable economic transition to carbon-neutrality that builds a robust clean economy in which all Californians prosper.
UPTE is a supporter of this program and has been active in working towards a clean and productive future for workers.
Call for UPTE Photos
We here at UPTE are looking for photos of our members to use in marketing materials. We want shots of members working. We want images of our members participating in UPTE activities. Do you have any of these photos? If you do, please send them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We especially want photos from our community college members and our lab workers.
