Retiree Health Survey for Everyone at UCEven If You Haven’t Dreamed of Retiring Yet
Our union has the opportunity to address the out of control costs of retiree health benefits. We are bargaining with UC about how to “pre-fund” retiree benefits, similar to what we do with our pension.

To get the most suitable benefit, we need your input! Complete our confidential survey so we know what matters to our members:

You will receive a personalized estimate of the current cost of your retiree health benefits after you complete the survey, so please don’t delay.

CA Budget Answers Our Higher Education Demands … Partially

Working together in the Re-Claim Higher Education coalition, UC unions have made some modest progress in increasing targeted portions of the University of California and Community College budgets.

The community colleges’ budget for office hours and student services will be restored to pre-recession levels. Money was also allocated on a one-time basis to hire more faculty from under-represented ethnicities.

UC will receive funding for 2,500 students if the Regents adopt a policy limiting non-resident students. There will also be $24 million in one-time funds to provide support for students from under-represented ethnicities.

Our bills for adjunct faculty job security and tracking office hours also continue to proceed through the legislature.

UC Unions Oppose Napolitano’s Undermining of Pension

The major staff unions at UC are determined to beat back UC President Janet Napolitano’s proposal to allow new hires to opt out of the pension plan. This proposal hurts not only new hires -- who’ll get substantially reduced benefits -- but undermines the long-term financial stability of the pension plan for existing employees.

UC will imposed this plan on non-union staff July 1 and has proposed it to clerical workers, represented by the Teamsters. Standing together, we can defeat this ill-advised proposal that only serves short-term, highly paid executives.
