(1) Let's stand together for a strong new contract!
The first step in showing our unity will be to sign a petition to UC that we’ll present at the beginning of negotiations. UC must know that our bargaining team has the support of thousands of members -- that’s us!

Quality research depends on quality researchers. UC can only attract the staff (us!) required to remain the world’s premier academic instruction with a real pension plan and decent pay.

Cutting edge medical care requires excellent staff with adequate time to provide the best patient care.

Undermining our pensions and letting our wages stagnate hurts us, but it also undermines the amazing public service we provide.

Union activists will be distributing our petition for a fair contract beginning the end of March. Sign it right away and make sure all your co-workers do as well. Thousands of signatures will make a big impression on UC.

(2) Join the March for Science
Truth matters! The integrity and progress of science should not depend on political ideology. From climate change to health care, our efforts to advance science should not obstructed by corporate profits.

All over our nation the defenders of truth and scientific progress will March for Science on April 22. UPTE-CWA is organizing contingents to join the march in cities throughout California. Sign up now so we can provide you with details and reserve you a special UPTE for Science button.

(3) Protect and expand health care
Millions will lose health care with the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. We will be back to health care only for the rich or healthy.

You can step up to oppose the repeal of ACA by coming to congressional town hall meetings. Legislators must hear the pain they’ll inflict on millions of California families after they are forced off health care or are made to take inferior insurance.

Even better, you can step up to make health care affordable for everyone in California by attended town hall meetings to support Senate Bill 562. This bill would establish a single payer health care system to cover everyone, cut insurance company profits and limit costs of health care providers.

The UPTE E-Bulletin is prepared by UPTE-CWA President Jelger Kalmijn. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to write him at president@upte-cwa.org.
