1. Bargaining Starts October 5th in San Diego:
The next round of bargaining for the Healthcare Professionals will begin next Wednesday, October 5th,
in San Diego. We have set a pretty ambitious bargaining schedule in the hopes to have a contract
by the end of the year.
We will be bargaining at least once at each Medical Center. Bargaining sessions will last three days and in general we will be holding them every other week. We want to have our members come and participate at least one of the three days. Members can make presentations
on the issues that most concern them, such as: below market wages, 2-tier pension, healthcare benefits, workload issues, weekend differential, etc.
If you are interested in making a presentation (we can help you with this) or just want to support and observe the bargaining process, please contact Wendi Felson or your bargaining team representative listed below. Here are the dates we will be at your Medical Center:
October 5-7: San Diego
October 19-21: San Francisco
October 26-28: UCLA
November 7-9: Davis
November 16-18: Irvine
2. Market Equity Data Needed
The UPTE bargaining team will be making its proposals on the first day of bargaining, October 5th. Our wage proposal should include any extra equity that your job classification needs. However, to make that equity proposal we need to get the most up-to-date market research from you, our members. Except in very limited
cases, the bargaining team can’t do this – you will need to do it. It’s easy, just do an internet search, or call old friends or school mates who are working at similar medical centers or clinics doing the same work as you.
Find out what they are making; find out what the entry level salary is and the maximum salary; and whatever else you can gather. The team will use this to establish the percent equity adjustment needed for your job classification at your medical center. We need this information by the end of the week, September 30th. If you have any questions or need help just contact Wendi Felson or your bargaining team representative. Whatever you can get, email it in as soon as possible.
Bargaining Team:

3. Systemwide Mobilizing Meeting October 1st:
There will be a Systemwide Mobilizing meeting this Saturday, October 1st, at the UC Davis Medical Center.
Without an active and engaged membership, the bargaining team will not be able to accomplish much at the
negotiations table. As we bargain, we will want you to participate in various activities to back up the team.
This meeting on Saturday is to strategize and map out a plan of action to let UC know our members support
our bargaining team and want a fair and equitable contract. It’s not too late, please come to the meeting.
It will be from 10am to 3 pm. UPTE will help you with any travel logistics, expenses, etc. If you are interested
or have questions, let Wendi Felson know.
Want more UPTE-CWA dialogue?
We have an email list dedicated to the HX unit. We can use this as a place to ask questions, report what is happening at your medical center, clinic, or student health center, and strategize on the best ways to get a decent contract. We would like to start up a lively discussion as we go into the last stages of bargaining. Please send a personal e-mail address (not your UC work email) so we can add you to the list. It has a low volume of e-mails and is a great way to stay connected with your unit. Contact Wendi Felson if you are interested in joining.
If you wish to have dialogue with other members about UPTE-CWA issues, sign up for our web forum. There is also a list serve set up specifically for HX members. |
