2) UC Bargaining and Mobilizing

UC has made their position clear at all bargaining tables: They want to give us nothing. The list of UC refusals keeps growing:

  • Unwillingness to fix internal equity for BTSAs
  • Refuse to address disparity between Physician Assistants compared to Nurse Practitioners who do same work
  • Any equity increases for TX/RX, such as Animal Techs or Scene Techs
  • Reject fixing long-term inequity for Pharmacists, Counseling Psychologist, Nuclear Med Techs and many more

In short, UC refuses to respond to our bargainers on any of the countless wage disparities throughout the system.

So we are stepping up action for these job titles. First, we will all get together to request support from our first level management who in many cases haven’t even been asked their opinion by UC bargainers. Next, we will escalate by bringing the inequities public and enforcing the status quo since all our contracts have expired.

3) Mt San Jacinto Offers UPTE Adjunct Faculty a Pittance – Sign the Support Petition

Adjunct faculty are paid wages insulting for the level of education and commitment they bring to the class room. Even our members must have the same qualifications and teach the same classes as tenure-track faculty, our total compensation is about 1/3!

Mt San Jacinto has lagged even further behind in pay with adjoining college districts such as Riverside and Palomar paying much better.

The college has proposed a 1% raise to the UPTE bargaining team for one year and no guarantees after that. Our last contract won 11% over three years.

Sign the petition to support UPTE adjunct faculty at MSJC win a fair pay increase. The signatures will be presented to the board of trustees at the college by a delegation of members.

4) Proposed Tax Plan a Corporate Give-Away and We Pay the Price

The Republican House leadership released their corporate tax cut plan. The plan will hurt workers, benefit corporations and leave the country broke. Here are some details provided by our national union CWA:

  • Many CWA members and retirees will see their tax bills go up.
The bill limits deductions for property taxes and mortgage interest and eliminates deductions for state and local taxes. It also gets rid of tax deductions for education expenses and student loan interest.
  • New taxes on your benefits.
Education, child care, dependent care and adoption benefits provided by your employer will now be treated as taxable income.
  • The plan helps corporations move jobs overseas.
The new way that corporate taxes are calculated makes it easier for multinational corporations to game the system and avoid taxes by relocating their operations to other countries.
  • Passing this plan means cutting Medicare and Medicaid
These cuts blast a big hole in the federal budget. Because there will be less tax revenue from corporations, the Republican budget plan cuts funding for Medicare and Medicaid.

Members of Congress have said that they don't believe opinion polls that show that most Americans don't want to foot the bill for massive tax cuts for corporations and CEOs.
Maybe that's because the only people they are listening to are corporate lobbyists and CEOs.

Let's get their attention by flooding their inboxes. Click here to tell your member of Congress that we won't pay for this giveaway to the 1%.
