|Our petition demanding a fair contract serves as the perfect opportunity to strike up a conversation with your co-worker about UPTE. After you sign it, have them sign it. The petition comes with a list of our bargaining priorities that you can leave behind.
Winning fair raises and manageable workloads ensure that UC can remain the world’s premiere academic research institution. Being the best requires superior staff. Superior staff only stay if they are treated fairly. While we fight for our raises and more, we also fundamentally fight for the future success of the research and health care we engage in.
We will deliver these petitions to UC when we start bargaining in May, so we don’t have much time to collect thousands of signatures.
The UPTE staff at each campus are distributing the petitions. In case you have not received one yet, you can download it here along with the literature for you to distribute: bargaining petition | bargaining brochure
The Republicans faced public outrage from 24 million Americans losing their health insurance with their attempt at repealing the Affordable Care Act, so they dropped it. Now they plan to undercut the financing to undermine the ACA and claim that it collapsed. We won round 1, but there are many rounds to come.
The real solution for affordable health care is the expansion of Medicare to everyone (also known as “single payer”). Medicare for All or similar systems provide superior health outcomes for much less money in every other industrialized nation in the world. Only in the US are insurance companies, pharmaceutical manufacturers and health care corporations permitted to reap unimaginable profits at the expense of our health.
UPTE is actively supporting Medicare for All in California with SB 562.
We want solutions that meet working peoples’ needs and fairness. Contribute to our Political Action Fund so we can support non-corporate candidates and issues like Medicare for All.
Whether you care about the environment, cancer treatments, or basic research, come out to show your support on April 22 during the nationwide March for Science. The Trump administration has proposed draconian budget cuts to scientific research. Their witch hunt of climate scientists challenges the very integrity of science while at the same time imperiling our survival on this plant.
